SERIE(US) Commentary | e.ROTIK FUNKK?

As the Owner and Creator, here at FUNKKy BLACKK©, I decided that a clear article needed to be written in regards to the nature of a few of our art series. The SERIES e.ROTIK FUNKK collection is the first to be chosen to give a hint on what only your 3rd eye should see -because it is has the most sensitive and taboo material. Other words, this is a 3rd eye to 3rd eye Mind share coming from the creative talent of myself and it is imperative that I as a graphic artist/designer, give the insight FIRST before someone else tries to do that for you. 

Now with all that said, let's get into what e.ROTIK FUNKK is. This series is an attempt to stir up your emotions but not to cause commotions when you see something as sensitive like SEX, Sex, sex. What I would like to happen is for you to be stimulated mentally and physically, to get away from what is considered 'being normal' or 'safe'. e.ROTIK FUNKK is supposed to be outrageously erotic, but in good taste. Good taste means for myself, that the graphic designs are good enough and of a high quality that they can be used as club flyers, given to a special someone as a postcard, or worn on a tee-shirt, hung as a wall poster or even lying on your own queen/king sized bed. This series takes an image, that is sexually sensual (nice way to say: seductive) and give you something to IMAGINE. Yes, I said 'IMAGINE'. When you are looking at ART (graphics is included as this), the imagination that is usually subdued and never mentioned (some folks don't have anyone to 'tell it to') will be drawn out of the recesses of your subconscious mind and perhaps some positive experience can be known. Basically, erotic art should get the ass off the wall and get you off the 'chains' of social slavery! My designs, admittedly are not for EVERYONE, because..well for various reasons..it just isn't. The Dr. Funkkin in me is cool with that.

 

Now, I do think there is some generational hypocrisy occurring with some of the dislike of my 'oh so nasty designs'. Here's the deal with that; When a Parliament-Funkadelic album was released, it got a lot of attention and airplay, with no great concerns about the artwork on the cover of a 12inch or 45 -people just wanted to listen to the music and get that same arousal of the senses achieved to get on with that funkky love. By the way, those P-Funk album covers could be very graphic for those early days. In conclusion, use e.ROTIK FUNKK to express what you IMAGINE in the erotic sense; whether with 'yourself' or 'someone' else..lol. It's your MIND, so it's up to YOU to not stay BLIND...in your own Universe. See the Light, that divine Light, so that your heart and soul can take FLIGHT, for there's nothing wrong about soaring sexually to FUNKKy heights. For all the pretenders out there -I do my thing while you do yours..and I'll do it the best just to keep the locks off my doors. Thank you for reading. PEACE! 

I Really Digg You Brotha'

I first heard of Gil Scott-Heron in 2000 in Nashville,TN while purchasing one of his earlier albums. Listening to him talk about Watergate, and how there was nothing new & that this world has been trying to upstage black folks with the rise of culture-bandits, actually increased my readiness to get into more music of his likes. I really began to dig deeper and focus on my own contradictions and thus decided to embrace them, because not to would constrict my "MIND" and "MOVEMENT". I am still learning a lot from this brotha' and it is musicians and artists like him that I will continue to use as inspirations, regardless of their contradictions -because I got the most out of them to be who I am striving to BE today -than the person who never even tried to maximize their Godly potential. I am Many; therefore Who Are You?

The art ain't easy! What is Art? Art is the expression of the sub-conscious mind's thoughts and inhibitions. In some cases there is a concerted effort to do away with all inhibitions; hence the emergence of the graphic artist or art designer, also the musician and witty businessman/woman. I spend countless hours of the day and night contemplating on where I want my designs to go, who will be influenced and inspired; or what or whom will be able to inspire me. Some of our creativity is manifested in the words we speak, the pictures we draw upon from the gravitation of images as drawn up (understanding) by the magnetic-mind, or consciousness experienced by our engagement with this world. For instance, listen to songs by Jimmy Hendrix or George Clinton, and look at the album art that is produced alongside the songs i.e. Voodoo Child...or Maggot Brain -both speak to the present-day mental conditions of scorned people(s), trapped in a unjust and apathetic world. That art is rebellious and sanctified at the same time, one foot stomping and one foot stepping quietly. Well FUNKKy BLACKK© is the former and we intend to defy any ART etiquette that restricts the natural aesthetics of the Mind; especially a MIND that's been held at bay for centuries....

The whole Point of my work is not to just do the ordinary. It is to perform on the Extraordinary: That is You. FUNKKy BLACKK© could do retouches all day long or web promotions, but the greatest pleasure we get from this work - is to give you the FUNKK. I want to make it clear that the inspiration for these designs are from people participation. It is that they are giving us the IMAGE that they want to be displayed on a towel set, bed sheet or spread (high-quality silk screening is involved), poster or post-card, maybe a birthday card to that special person. Who's On 3rd?





 I have this desire to do some more modern pop; especially in the world of hip-hop. This thing called mixtape graphics..is a funkky th'ang. If you do a Google search for mixtape graphics you honestly won't find anything b.u.t music blogs or websites that market the education of designing this kind of folk art. Yes, I said folk art. mixtapes are everywhere and no longer just apart of the Underground. I've even saw a jitterbugg ('round 12 or 14) doing a tutorial on the design of mixtapes. His technique was a little rough, b.u.t he reinspired me to get into this, you know, take the art more seriously? Now considering that, take a look again at your parent's Hip-Hop vinyl covers and the plethora of  Hip Hop CD's and look at that mixtape you love to look at on your media player or i.Pod. What do you get out of that? I've observed that the mixtape art is a throwback to the designs of 70's and 80's funk and soul. If we really wanna' be hardcore on the origin..give praise to the Hip-Hop pioneers; especially the artists who designed the covers for the Jonzun Crew and Planet Patrol! Primitive by today's highly technical standards, b.u.t still the fundamentals are the same: Layer, click, click, layer, layer..and more lor arrangements. The love of these designs is what ultimately gets me in the grind to be apart of the history. 









AN INTRODUKTION TO DA FUNKKy BLACKK BLOG

Though I have been designing graphics for a little over 4 years, FUNKKy BLACKK was started in late December 2009. The concept arose out of necessity from having worked on my best friend's Myspace page and providing his internet presence with the graphic designs needed at the time. Teaching myself at first with image editing programs such as Net.Paint and Adobe Photoshop 7.0 and CS4, I began to realize that there was a need for graphic art with a more personalized touch..more than what I OBSERVED of the many images on Facebook, Myspace and the Internet in general. Please don't misconstrue what I'm stating here: There are a lot of good graphics out there; however it seems that the FUNKK in ART has been forgotten. Thus, FUNKKy BLACKK ©comes to your rescue catering to that funky, eclectic, artistic inner/outer vision. For instance, ordinary images, photos, logos and things we take for granted such as wash towel sets or bedsheet/spread -can get an eclectic and esthetically beautiful enhancement. Look around at any birthday party and tell me if the items used to setup the celebration are plain or what is on the line of "boring". FUNKKy BLACKK ©seeks to give our people their own personalized reflections and ideas of culture and get everyone off the fence..off the wall!

Imagine coming into your office or bedroom and getting to see a life-sized poster of yourself or family member hanging elegantly on the wall. What about a collage of your favorite musicians or simply a postcard of a cultural or spiritual icon? Now it's no secret that I really enjoy Funk music, yet I also embrace the art and culture that it blessed my life with. Well, I am sharing that same style and "feeling" and when I create a graphic design, it is for your pleasure. FUNKKy BLACKK© embraces the egocentricism of art and music and translates the meanings into a graphic delite. This PROJECT is capable of designing CD covers, business cards, commercial logos, magazine layouts but is more focused on "people" specific designs. There are 3 series that make a composite of what we do: FUNKK CHYLD© is the newest idea being inspired from the ever-emerging youth pop culture. Seeing the children express the funk as it Is -Is refreshing. My e.ROTIK FUNKK© series gives the consumer an opportunity to leave most of their inhibitions behind and send that special postcard or hang up that bad-girl or bad-boy poster. It's designs are for the bedroom too -where ever you do You! Finally there's FUNKKy BLACKK©..and she helps you to express your knowledge of original cultures and the esthetical nature of spirituality.
